Racing Crew out for a leisure ride
Brawl in the Breaks – Winifred, MT
This is the most fun race in Montana! Free
camping, riding available for kids most of the time, family atmosphere,
easy going and courteous crew, and fun to be had for those seeking it!
Directions: From US87 at Lewistown drive
north on 1st Ave. North, which is US191. Turn right at
Kendall Road, following US191, and go 14.5 miles to the town of Hilger.
Turn left on Winifred Road, heading north, and go 19.7 miles. Turn right
on Butcher Road and follow the signs approximately 10 miles to the race
site. Give special attention to the signs, if all else fails.
Early arrivals may be volunteered to help
flag the course, drive posts, set up tents or any number of other things
required to put on this event. It’s fun so don’t be afraid to pitch
in and give a hand.
This may also be a place to avoid if it’s
raining. The first year many rigs were retrieved a week after the event.
This is a two-day event – Saturday is a
short course race for the kids and the senior riders.
Sunday is the big event – long course for all
classes of motorcycle racers (sorry, no ATV’s).
Both courses wind through the gullies and
timber of the Missouri break area. This is a little more spectator
challenged course, as only the area around the start/finish area is
visible to those in camp. There is a spectator area further up the road
about 3 miles where the course crosses the flats and enters the breaks
area. This could provide some spectacular pictures and viewing also.
Every year the course is a bit different and
is approximately 17-18 miles. Depending on the class you ride. you will
be riding two, three or four laps, and there is a separate 'A' loop for
part of the course. Even the novice should be able to complete the
entire course, so don't be afraid of the course being too technical.
The crew putting on this event are: Ross Butcher,
Jeff Evans, Scott Maxwell, Greg Swan and Tom Stark.
